Relax! It’s Friday. Which means stop stressing and unwind, your body needs it. Stress and anxiety both drastically affect your health. It can cause weight gain, hair loss, insomnia, indigestion, and high blood pressure. Pretty much just makes your body overall miserable. I know life can get difficult and you may think you need to spend big bucks in order to really relax, but that’s not true. You don’t need a fancy spa or an expensive vacation to enter full relaxation. Everything you need to relax, you can do at home. It will not only keep your body happy, but also give you more energy to face the bumps on the road ahead of you. Here are the best ways to relax at home.
Take a Bath
Turn off your phone, turn off the TV, and turn on the water in the tub. Taking a hot bath is a great way to relax. The heat helps to relax your muscles and help ease your mind from stress and anxiety. Set the mood with a bathtub pillow and candles. Fill the tub with your own homemade bath salts along with some drops of our favorite lavender oil.
Fancy a Cup of Tea?
Drinking tea is all the craze at the moment. Tea drinkers are finally getting a variety of options and mixtures of different tea leaves and flavors. It can be overwhelming. However, hands down, the best tea to drink in order relax is chamomile tea. Chamomile is a well-known home remedy used to treat sleeping disorders, panic attacks, and anxiety. Drinking a hot chamomile tea will also calm any indigestion or stomach cramps, so your entire body can fully enter relax mode.
A Soothing Playlist
A good playlist goes a long way. As much as you want to turn on Beyonce or Kendrick Lamar and jam out, the best songs to play in order to relax are soothing songs with low tempos. The goal is to slow down your heart rate and relax your muscles. You want your body to enter a state of relaxation that forces your mind to drift away in meditation, free of stressful thoughts.
Stretch it Out
Yes that’s right, stretching is also an easy way to relax. Spending your day at a desk or constantly moving all day causes tension and strain on your body, your muscles in particular. Taking time out of your day to stretch out those strains is extremely relaxing. Dedicate 5-10 minutes of serious stretches and you will feel so much better and your body will be less prone to muscle injuries.
Read Some Books
You are not being graded, and this is not an assignment. This is leisure reading. Believe it or not, reading a good book can be way more relaxing than Netflix. Reading a book distracts your mind from the realities that stress you. You can’t check instagram and read a book, like you would watching Netflix. You have to be fully invested in the story to escape and once you’re there the rest of your body can enter a full state of relaxation. Go to a bookstore, buy a few books, and start reading them one by one, every night. Your mind will escape all the outside noise and the words will take you away.
