Do It Yourself Essential Oil Recipes

Wool Dryer Balls

Wool dryer balls can be purchased or homemade. Place 2-3 drops of Lavender oil or Sweet Orange oil on each ball. These should last through 3 cycles in the dryer.

Oil Car Diffusers

All you need to make your own oil car diffusers are clothespins, cork material, glue, ribbon, or other embellishments, and your preferred essential oil. Simply add a few drops to the cork material and attach it to your car vent.

Carpet Deodorizer

In a bowl, combine 1 ½ cups of baking soda and 10 drops of your preferred essential oil(s). Stir to combine and place the mixture in a mason jar. Using a hole punch, punch 5-8 holes in the lid of the mason jar. Place the lid on the jar and seal the cap. Sprinkle the mixture lightly on the carpet. Let it sit for 5-8 minutes and then vacuum up the mixture. Always test a small area first!

Eucalyptus Shower Melts

Place Eucalyptus oil and corn starch in a bowl, mix well. Add in 2 tsp. of water, continue to mix. Continue adding a few drops of water at a time, mixing well. Once it’s a thick paste, transfer mixture to mini ice cube tray. Smooth the mixture flat. Freeze the contents for one hour.

Bug Spray

Fill 4oz spray bottle with 3oz of distilled water and 1 tbsp. of witch hazel. Add your preferred essential oils (30-40 drops of Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Tea Tree, or Eucalyptus) and shake gently. Shake before each use. Reapply every 4-6 hours.

Aromatherapy Playdough

In a saucepan, stir in 1 cup of flour, ½ cup of salt, 2 tbsp. of cream of tartar. Add 1 cup of water, 1.5 tbsp. of liquid cooking oil, and food coloring. Turn on the heat to medium-low and stir until mixture forms a ball. Once the mixture has reached playdough consistency, remove from heat and allow to cool for 3 minutes. Kneed in 6-8 drops of your preferred essential oils. Store in an air-tight container.

Scented Finger Paints

In a small cup or bowl, mix ¼ cup of liquid laundry starch with 1 tsp. powdered tempera paint. Repeat that step using different colors of powdered tempera paint. Mix 3-5 drops of a different essential oil with each color of paint (Lavender for purple or blue, Peppermint for red or white, etc.). Carefully pour each color of paint into 2oz plastic bottle and replace the cap. Before painting, shake the bottle.
